During our Live Streaming Experience Sharing Event we will have the pleasure of having with us the following guest speakers:
1) LIFE Terracescape
Dr. Vassiliki (Vicky) Kleftoyanni will present the LIFE Terracescape project, which aims to demonstrate the use of drystone terraces as green infrastructures resilient to climate change impacts. Her presentation will focus on the Land Stewardship approach and the establishment of the first Land Stewardship Organization in Greece under the auspices of the Green Fund.
Dr. Kleftoyanni is a Biologist, holding an MSc in Environmental Biology and a PhD in Participatory and adaptive management of protected areas. She is specialised in participatory methods, focusing on social research and active involvement and awareness of local societies. In the frame of the LIFE Terracescape project, she holds the position of the Land Stewardship Officer contracted with the Green Fund.
2) LIFE-FOODWASTEPREV
Dr. Gyula Kasza will present the project Wasteless (LIFE-FOODWASTEPREV), the national level food waste prevention campaign of the Hungarian National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH), with the support of EU LIFE, which aims to change attitudes to food waste in Hungary, leading to a reduction in the quantity of such waste generated by Hungarian households. To this end a number of out-of-the-box and strategically chosen communication means were employed. The project intends to increase the awareness of food waste prevention among primary school pupils as well, by organising a school programme.
Dr. Kasza is the head of the Risk Prevention and Education Department of NFCSO, an honorary professor at the University of Veterinary Medicine at Szent István University, and a lecturer at Semmelweis University. He teaches food law, food safety risk management and food safety risk communication. He has a degree in agricultural engineering with a law degree, obtained his PhD degree at the Corvinus University of Budapest, and was habilitated at the University of Veterinary Medicine. His research focuses on the management, identification and communication of food safety risks, the adaptation of innovations in the food sector, food waste and food marketing. He is the head of the Wasteless national food waste prevention programme, as well as the coordinator of the education and R&D areas of NFCSO.
3) LIFE GrIn
Dr. Konstantinia Tsagkari will present the LIFE GrIn project. The main objective of the project is to incorporate climate governance in the management of green infrastructure at the local level through the establishment of an integrated policy framework focusing on Urban Green Areas (UGAs). The project promotes urban integration, which translates into thinking of urban open spaces not as isolated units but as vital elements of the urban landscape with their own specific set of functions and contribution to climate change mitigation and adaptation. This approach capitalizes on UGAs as valuable resources for the adaptation of cities to climate change and the mitigation of its impacts through urban forestry.
Dr. Tsagkari is a researcher in the Laboratory of Forest Ecology and Hydrology, of the Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems (HAO Demeter). Currently she is the director of the Institute.
4) LIFE RE-WEEE
Mr Haris Angelakopoulos will be presenting the LIFE RE-WEEE project. This project aims to reduce Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) through the implementation of prevention (reuse) and ‘preparation for reuse’ actions, and the development and demonstration of efficient sorting and preparation methods for reuse processes for a variety of WEEE, leading to an increased acceptance of Used Electrical and Electronic Equipment (UEEE) by consumers.
Mr Angelakopoulos is the Technical and Environmental Manager at Appliances Recycling S.A. (coordinator of the LIFE RE-WEEE project).
